Magical, indeed

Hello, there.

Yes, it is I. No, I did not drop into a black-hole, travel across time and help launch human-kind into an alternative, more sustainable world.

I did, however, do something even more impressive — I launched a baby out of my hoo-haa, even though he refused to come out for two frigging days after the signal turned green. More impressive than that – he's still functioning, after almost an year and a half now. We haven't broken him or had him replaced during the warranty period or anything. Parenting FTW!

Motherhood has certainly managed to evoke a lot of emotions that seem to have been lost under the layers of flab all these years. Some of these emotions, I do not even have words to express.

Take today morning, for instance. All was peaceful in the household. I was getting ready for an appointment, the H was taking a shower, and little !xobele was eating his breakfast while monkeying around – an integral part of his daily routine. Now, our little light-of-life is quite the clean freak. He might splash around on his own pee, he might try to catch cockroaches on the road. By God! He might even try to stick his face into the toilet to see what alternate universe it leads to; but what he cannot stand is a dirty hand. And it was because of this wonderful little quirk that I did not find it weird when he suddenly walked up to me in the other room and stuck out his hand, nor did I think twice when I wiped the brown gunk off his hand with my fingers.

Only to be followed by a moment of dawning realization and utter panic. You see, he was eating peanut butter with his breakfast; which is why the brown gunk made sense. But also a fact that needed to be considered in the situation — he was not wearing a diaper. Suddenly, it did not seem quite so obvious as to what the source of the gunk was.

The whirlwind of emotions I felt at that moment, I do not think I can ever put into words. That divine feeling as I realized that sniffing my fingers was really the only way I could decipher the brand of the brown gunk — priceless. I do not kid when I say that seconds seemed like hours. I caught hold of little !xobele's hand and held him in place lest he decided to run off to stomp on the more questionable possible source. My mind raced to think of a solution that did not involve my nose-buds, but panic conquered all.
I did, however, in that frozen frame of time, realize that this was something... special. Something I would never have been blessed enough to experience if not for parenthood.

The story does have a happy ending; it was peanut butter, after all. As excruciating as it was to lift up my hand to my nose, I got through it. Hey, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, right?

Don't such stories warm your heart and make you realize how intense and beautiful the Journey of Motherhood is?

No?
Ok. Suit yourself.

I shall be off, now. I need to hide the toilet brushes before little !xobele comes back. I caught him staring at them today morning and I am pretty sure he thinks they are giant, funny toothbrushes.

Magical, I tell you.

Press Release about Product Release

So the biggest Product Release I have ever worked on is going to happen in three months - I am going to push out *what is hopefully* a human being. (Though I wouldn't mind an alien...sometimes I think an alien is more probable. Unless you know, I release a tiny Kung Fu Panda. Now that I think of it, the rate at which it's kicking but then, sleeping through all ultrasounds, I think Po is the more probable outcome)
And yes, I am completely aware that two posts ago, I gave tips on avoiding this subject. And no, I did not give in just because random aunties asked me to. Or because my GoT responses did not work. I assure you, they still do. You can still use them all you want.
We just decided it was time to produce a minion. And you know, train it to do minion-y stuff for us. So be nice to us, people. Else things like 'Nibbles, poop on her hand' and  'Tiny darling, why don't you puke on his nice bald spot?' will be very common place in your life.
Yes, Nibbles is the name of the minion right now - after the diaper toting grey mouse in Tom and Jerry that is constantly hungry. No, I am not eating to my heart's content and blaming it on the minion. Well, maybe a little bit. But you can't prove it! Ha!
What are we going to name the little one? We did think of little Copernicus or little
Mufasa or a little Schrodinger (and then definitely get a cat and call it Schrodinger's cat. Then teach Nibbles about the experiment, confusing the kid for life). But a friend pointed out !xobele is a rather nice name. I agree. Little !xobele it is. Don't anybody dare try and steal the name - somebody will-a get hurt real bad.

As with any product release, I have 'pressing' issues - issues that make me visit the loo a million times a day. Last week, I developed a huge heat boil on my eye. I looked exactly like Quasimodo- only instead of the hump on the back, I had a bump up the front. Radiant pregnancy glow, my ass. :D

Ya..so to sum up, don't be surprised if you see me rolling along some sloped Bangalore road in the next few months - the rate at which I am going, we will probably need to sell our car and buy a tow truck. Just step aside, let me roll by, wave a hi maybe, but don't try to stop me. Nature did not provide me with brakes. Chances are, I will roll over you.

Don't say I did not warn you.

GoT it, I say!

There is no denying it - as much as it pains me to say this - I am 27 years old.
So are most of my friends.
A recent survey among them has revealed that most need to tackle near and dear ones, random aunties and uncles, or younger cousins even, asking them about
a. their pending marriage
or
b. their pending spawning

So to make things interesting the next time this subject is broached, I have decided to propagate the art-of-GoT.
Here are a few samples:

"Your life will be so empty if you don't have kids right away"
"You know nuthin', aunty-o"

"What do you mean it's too soon to get married? You are a girl - no boy wants to marry an old cow!"
"WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS?"

"Why do you think all your friends are married?"
"Valar Morghulis"

"You are next in line, eh? Eh? Eh?"
"Dracarys!"

"Why won't you get married?"
"Winter is coming"

"Your biological clock is ticking. Make babies before it's too late."
"WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS?"

"I just told your mother about an alliance - your second cousin's maternal aunt's grandmother's sister's daughter-in-law's nephew. I am going to be responsible for you finally getting married, see."
"A Lannister always pays his debts"

"Give us one good reason you won't marry this boy who is oh-so-wonderful on paper."
"Hodor"

Extra points for assuming the tone and expression of the character.
What say?

PS: GoT is Game of Thrones. If you do not know that is, you must be that frozen early man they thawed back to life.
PS Reloaded: Hodor

Tiny Treasures

I am a good friend. Always have been. One of my better qualities.
How else can you explain these little notes...each one a treasure - a message to touch, inspire and evolve - that I left all over my friend's room while she was at work?

Tea Party

So I wrote this when my cousin mailed me saying her two and three quarters year old daughter hosted a pretend tea party on her birthday.

What a perfect day for an outdoor tea party it is!
The sun is shining.
The birds are chirping.
The colorful butterflies are fluttering by.
And what a turn out!
There is Mr.Gummy, silly as he is, wearing his bright yellow rain coat.
Next to him sits Lady Lola in her beautiful gown, her hair braided with pretty flowers.
Naughty Monkey Moop is sitting at the edge of his chair, trying to put sugar cubes into his mouth while no one is looking.
Donkey Dan is laughing his wonderfully infectious laugh while Joko, the Clown, honks with his big red nose and moos like a cow.
Then sits good old Lucy, smiling and looking upon everybody with a sparkle in her eye.
And there comes Mother, with a pot of steaming hot tea and cakes!
How everyone cheers!
Shush..I cannot describe the party to you anymore. My tea is getting cold, and I'm afraid Monkey Moop is going to eat my share of the cake.
Good bye now!
No wait!
Oh wonderful! Mother has got extra.
Would you like to join us?

How to Bug a Friend Early in the Morning

You: I pinged you. You ignored me. Head down sad face
Friend: Chin up eeeeeee face!!! :D
You: And as she grinned like a maniac, a minuscule mosquito made it's way into her wide, open mouth
Friend: Heehawhaw poraaamai*...
You: Little did she know that the sound of her laugh mimicked to perfection, the mating bray of a donkey. Somewhere nearby, donkey Jojo's quest for it's soul mate began.
Friend: Kazhudhaiya vechu oru kaadhal kaaviyama?? Ezhudhi mudichutu give me credits for instigating ur innovation :D **
You: But did she realize she was more than mere inspiration? Did she realize that she was the lead actor, the heart and soul of this beautiful Ballad of the Bray?
*** Silence ***

* -  ~Insert Donkey braying noise here~ Jealousy
** - A love story with a donkey? When you are done writing it, please give me credits.

Blah

S: I don't know if its the industries they work in, but my friends seem to think they are surrounded by crooks and cheats.
Me: What industries do they work in?
S: Oil, Banking, Fast Moving Consumer Goods
Me: So the people in Oil are too oily, you cannot bank on people in Banking, and the Fast Moving Consumer Goods people always try to pull a fast one on you?
S: Thu

Is it sad that this conversation was the highlight of my day?

Cab Ride Conversations with The H

Me *Post two traumatic head injuries*: My head hurts
The H: Awww
Me: Like two areas of concentrated pain on my forehead
The H: Its because you banged your head very hard..twice
Me: Or maybe it's because I am turning into HellBoy. Woaaahh. Maybe I am going to turn red. And you'll probably have to break off my horns. You will still stay married to me, won't you?
The H: *facepalm*
----------
*Two hours after my startling HellBoy revelation....revelation now having turned into bitter disappointment of still staying the same*
Me: Everything hurts. My head. My neck. My back. My eyes. My nose. My legs.
The H: Ouch. That's a lot of body parts.
Me: I know, right! You're probably gonna need a lot of spare parts to fix me.
The H: Eh?
Me: And you have to do it really quick. I mean, my one year warranty is almost gonna get over...July 15th isn't very far off. You better hurry.
The H: Kadavule!(Oh God!)
-----------
*The following is not for the Tamil-Challenged*
The H: Kandadha saapdaadha.
Me: Kandadha dhane da saapda mudiyum. Kaanaadhadha epdi da saapda mudiyum.
The H: Oh Gawd! Mudiliyae enala!
Me: Cha...unaala la illa. Kalyanathuku munadi lendhe enaku orae hair fall.
The H: Hang up!
----------
Me: The hilllsss are aliveee...with the sound of musiccccc. aaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaa.
The H: *hangs up*
----------
Me: Did you know that there's a house named "Anu's" near ours?
The H *sounding very disinterested*: Oh really?
Me: Every time my cab passes through it, I read it without the apostrophe and go wtf.
The H: Wait..what?!

Random Memory - 3 (or is it 4? oh well!)

Me (walking into classroom): Hi guys
Na (who was mid conversation with Ni): Hi..wait..(turning back to Ni) so where is it again?
Ni: You know butt doctor near my place right?
Na: Ya
Me(thinking): Butt doctor?
Ni: Ya..so you take the right before butt doctor's clinic
Me(thinking): Woah...so it is a butt doctor! What on earth does he do?!
Na: ok...butt doctor's right. Got it.
Me: Excuse me, but I just have to ask. What does butt doctor do?
Ni: He has a clinic
Me: Ya..but what does he do?
Na: What do you mean? He's a doctor!

So I let it go at that. I did not think digging into details about a butt doctor was going to help.
And then I spent an agonizing month not knowing who a butt doctor is.
Until one fine day, I went to Ni's place.
And saw the clinic next to her house.

The board said 'Bhatt Clinic'

Random Memory x

It was a warm Chennai sunday night. There was nothing on TV (I always find that there is never anything worth watchable on TV, weekend nights. It's their subtle way of saying get a life, I guess.) and the computer was being hogged by one of the two monster sisters.
So there I was, settled in the room with an already read Wodehouse book, while my mom and dad were reading some book too. The house was uncharacteristically quiet, when suddenly, the two monsters barged into the room.
One elder monster, let's call her M-1 had a dandiya stick in her hand.
The yonger monster was standing all excited behind her.
The three of us in the room looked up at their faces, when they suddenly started doing this:
M2(holding out her hand to M1): Aa..Kuchi!
M1(handing over the stick to M2):Aa...Pidi!
M2(holding out her hand to M1): Aa..Kuchi!
M1(handing over the stick to M2):Aa...Pidi!

After doing this for a while, both of them bowed to us.
M2 announced: "This performance of Kuchipudi was bought to you by M1 and M2. We hope you enjoyed it."
And both of them ran away from the room again, leaving us all staring at the door, wondering what had just happened.

PS: To those of you who did not understand this, learn Tamil! Or find out what Andhra's tradional dance is.

EG

Alright...so I am suddenly nostalgic about profs and my college. So this is dedicated to a certain Kevala-ramani :D
Given the backview:

and the top-view:

Find out which famous personality this is. And no, dont write it in the comment. I do not want to be targeted for Tax Evasion by the Government.

Note: To all wise guys, No! It is NOT me!
Note 2: I have been paying my taxes, on time, in perfect amount, as a good law abiding citizen, as of date.

2012 is here! Bhagooooo!

Its been ages since I've blogged...I kno. Either I've lost my sense of humor..or life has. I vote both :P
In a few days, my 24th new year will dawn. And hopefully the last. Mugagagagga.
Now let me tell you, why being a 24 year old girl is no fun:

1. All the maamis/friends turned maamis begin all conversations with you, with 'So...eppo kalyanam panikara plans?'
2. You do not understand your friends anymore. They have all moved on to different lives.
3. You do not understand what you are doing with your 'career' anymore. All you are sure of is finishing off all the lunch in your carrier *ha ha whattey witty play on word...i'm a genius i know*

Yes yes...very sad lives we lead. Regular Cinderellas we are. :P

So what have i been upto all this time I have been in hibernation? I've been...umm...actually hibernating. No really...that, and eating. In every possible place. With every possible perumation and combination of friends. That is actually one thing that has never changed abt my friends till date though. They, like me, can relate/conclude/lead any topic to food. Aha! :D

I have also switched jobs....just because I was bored of sitting in the same place, doing the same thing, over and over again. Now I am sitting in another desk, like some 1km away from the old one, doing the same thing, over and over again. And hanging out with the same ppl. Whattey rollercoaster ride no? Switching jobs?

I am alsooo getting married...does not seem to sink in no matter how many times I say it. My biggest worry as of today, is remembering to get married. I might just plan some trip or sleep off that day. So my life must be considerably different now, you think? I am marrying a friend. So no new rush of remance and what not.

I wonder how so much yet so little can happen to one person.

ooh ooh...I did go to a metallica concert...thats one strike off my bucket list...in a salwar. I was hoping to stand out in the crowd. Damn the middle aged lady in crisp cotton sari who stole my thunder and kept getting shown on the big screen!
Btw here's a review of it...i guess thats how everyone of felt after the concert:
http://headbangers.in/news/latest-news/metallica-live-at-%E2%80%98rock-in-india%E2%80%99-a-review/

Yups...thats how my year has been pretty much....very..umm...cheerful...I know.

Mebbe better luck next year :D

Now that you have suffered through a random senseless post, welcome back :D

Idle Mind

Being sleepy eyed and sid-the-sloth-like, the way i usually am at the beginning, middle and end of everyday, i spotted this article in the newspaper today:

Which led me to thinking...the conclusion of which is this: I acknowledge I have the disease. But I choose to live with it. Be a role model. Like all those women you read about who have survived deadly diseases and write motivational, see-the-upside articles about it. And if the disease does get to me, I choose to die a martyr.
The brief Peep-into-vetti's-head moment is now over...you may all get back to whatever you were doing. :P

Geek and Latin

Like the rest of the world right now, I too am a hugee fan of The Big Bang Theory.
And anybody who follows it as much as I do would have watched the latest episode of Sheldon getting drunk and getting geeky on jokes.
Here's one of the jokes:
So a neutron walks into a bar n asks the bartender…how much for a drink?
And the bartender says….for you…no charge!

He he he he he....i admit it...I'm geeky enough to find it funny (yes...i still remember loadsa stuff like that...any Tamilnadu stateboard student would!). So the Software professional in me made me forward it to our ever running thread of stuff and nonsense. And you know what I love about my friends? They dont just leave it at a chuckle, they tend to make conversations out of it, making anybody else who reads the whole thing wanna tear their head off. And the conclusion and questions that developed from this joke?
1. If an electron walks into the bar, will it have to give the bartender the drink?
2. Or will it hook up with a proton at the bar?
3. If does hook up with a proton, will it become neutral and get a free drink?
Does this means couples always get free stuff?
4. Wen a fast movin neutron hits a uranium atom, it splits n produces 2 elemnts ka atoms...So is the uranium like divorce?
5. Are the 2 other elements ka atoms that come as a side product, children from the marriage?
Hmmm........
